Adverse Weather Conditions Summary
Fri 11 Oct 2024We understand that weather conditions can change rapidly and may impact the safety and well-being of our pupils and staff. Our priority is to ensure everyone remains safe while minimizing disruptions to learning. Here’s how we manage different weather scenarios:
Hot Weather
- Temperature Monitoring: We consistently monitor temperatures to ensure classroom environments remain comfortable. We aim to maintain a 'reasonable' indoor temperature, as per government guidelines.
- Sun Safety: Pupils are encouraged to wear hats and apply sunscreen before coming to school. Staff will supervise the application of sunscreen when needed.
- Hydration: We ensure easy access to water and encourage regular hydration throughout the day.
- Outdoor Activities: Physical activities are limited during peak heat. We provide shaded areas and adjust playtimes as necessary.
Cold Weather
- Heating Systems: Our heating systems are regularly checked and maintained to ensure classrooms are warm and conducive to learning.
- Appropriate Clothing: We advise parents to dress their children in layers during colder months and ensure they have appropriate winter clothing for outdoor activities.
-
Snow and Ice: In the event of snow or ice, we assess the safety of pathways and outdoor areas. The school may close if conditions are deemed unsafe, and parents will be notified via text, on our school website and posted on the Hampshire County Council Emergency School Closures page https://www.hants.gov.uk/schoolclosures.
Severe Weather Events
- Communication: In the event of severe weather, we will communicate promptly with parents via email, text, and updates on our school website.
- School Closures: Decisions about school closures will be made based on local authority guidance and safety assessments. We aim to make these decisions as early as possible to minimize inconvenience.
- Emergency Contacts: Please ensure that your contact information is up-to-date so we can reach you in case of an emergency.

IMPORTANT CHANGES TO HASELWORTH PRIMARY SCHOOL
PLEASE READ
Dear Parents/Carers,
You may have heard previously that the government have made a proposal to extend the length of the school day. This change will come into effect from September 2024. We can now confirm that Haselworth Primary School will operate as follows from 4th September 2024:
• School gates will open at 8:25am and close promptly at 8.35am, there will be a rolling registration.
• Any children entering the school between 8:35am and 9.05am will be marked as late. Children who are late will enter, as they do now, through the school office entrance where they must be signed in by a parent/carer.
• Arrivals after 9.05am will receive an unauthorised late mark (U).
• The finish time will remain at 3:00pm. We ask all parents to be as prompt as possible for a 3:00pm collection.
The change has been actioned to ensure we have sufficient time to cover all national curriculum subjects. The changes will be beneficial to the school community, and will have a positive effect on your child’s education, allowing for more learning time within the school day.
This term we have trialed a new lunchtime plan to ensure that children get the most out of their lunchtime to socialise and have more space to burn off some energy. The new plan will continue in September and is as follows: Cygnets and Peacocks - 11.45am to 12.30pm Years 3 to 6 - 12.30pm -1.15pm.KS1 will have an additional afternoon break.

NEU Strike Action
Fri 27 Jan 2023Dear Parents and Carers
Industrial Action – NEU
As has been reported in the media and press, the members of the National Education Union are taking industrial action on 1st February 2023. Members of the NEU employed by Hampshire County Council and who work in our school may therefore decide to take strike action on that date.
Whilst we will endeavour to remain open and operating as safely as normal, we will communicate any further updates to you in a timely manner. However, I need to advise you that this may not be until the day itself as staff legally do not need to disclose their intentions before the day of Industrial Action. Therefore, parents need to be prepared for any class closures. A decision to strike is never taken without long and hard consideration.
Please remember, that the Industrial Action is not an action aimed at school but a National strike aimed at the Government in response to the levels of frustration as a result of the prolonged underfunding of schools and the local community.
Any notification of closure or partial closure will be sent to all parents via Arbor, placed on our website and on the Hampshire County Council emergency closure website: https://www.hants.gov.uk/schoolclosures
Other dates currently planned for industrial action include:
Thursday 02 March 2023
Wednesday 15 March 2023
Thursday 16 March 2023
We appreciate you support at this time.
