  • Google Legends Assembly

    Fri 24 Jun 2016

We are really pleased to have hosted a recent visit from Google as part of a new eSafety initiative called The Legends Tour. The tour is travelling around the country to teach young people four practical tips for having fun and staying safe online.

Pupils have taken part in an interactive 30 minute assembly that we hope will have inspired them to stay safe while enjoying time online. We would like you to encourage them to use what they have learned at home by asking them about the Legends’ Code.

    The Legends’ Code

    1. Think before you share

Your child learned about how quickly things can be shared online and why it’s important to only share things they’d be happy for everyone to see.

    2. Protect your stuff

Your child learned what tools are available to keep their stuff safe online – passwords, privacy settings and more – and why they are so important.

    3. Check it’s for real

Your child learned that not everything you see online is true and heard some tips for spotting online scams. We told your child that if they’re not sure about something, they should always check with you.

    4. Respect each other

Your child heard about how important it is to treat other people the way they want to be treated online. They learned how to report bad behaviour and abuse.

  • Puffins Camping Night

    Fri 24 Jun 2016

Puffins enjoyed a sleepover in school on Friday night. Sleeping in tents in the hall, they prepared and cooked their own supper on camping stoves outside in the last of the evening sunshine, sang songs around the campfire and toasted marshmallows.

After a last hot chocolate and biscuit the children retired to their tents and snuggled into sleeping bags.

I was impressed by how quickly everyone fell asleep! In the morning tents were taken down before we played outside and then it was already home time.

A big thank you to all parents who dropped off and picked up on time, brought along cakes and snacks and made sure the children had everything they needed. A special thanks to the adults (Mrs Williams [Chair of Governors], Mrs Steele and Mrs Collins) who kept watch all night in the hall. Mrs Millard

  • Year 6 Graduate from Portsmouth University!

    Thu 23 Jun 2016
Year 6 spent an exciting day at Portsmouth University this week. They had a tour of the campus, including visits to the Journalism and Dentistry departments. Fun was had dressing up and taking future selfies. After a tour of the library, they were all amazed at how big it was and were so impressed with the study pods that they think we should buy some for our school. The day came to an end with a graduation ceremony. Well done to the class of 2016 who were, yet again, excellent ambassadors for Haselworth Primary School.

  • Queen's 90th birthday celebrations

    Fri 10 Jun 2016
The school celebrated the Queen's 90th birthday today in true patriotic style! All children designed a stamp to commemorate the Queen's birthday or celebrating a British trandition/landmark. The stamps were displayed along the wall leading into the playground. They had a themed birthday picnic lunch in the playground and sung the national anthem, whilst waving Union Jack flags. In the afternoon, the children spent some time learning about the Royal family. As you'll see from the photos, the Queen was able to stop by for a photo opporunity with some of our pupils!
